Gwee Fleece Blanket Part 3

The Gwee blanket is all done. I left his arms, wings, horns, feet and tail free to move.

Most of his embroidery is by machine, but I did his eyes with a stem stitch and added in a couple nose slits.

Close up of the cute little feet.

The blanket itself is rather large... 36x60. I had a hard time deciding where to put the little guy on the blanket and which way to face him. I finally settled on this because I thought it would wourk best for the many ways a person can swaddle or fold.

The baby shower is next Sunday, so hopefully mom and dad love it.

Gwee Part 2

I wasn't feeling well today, so I didn't get as much done as I had hoped. I lightly stuffed and sewed the parts then hand embroidered the eyes and nose. I will likely finish soon. I am having a hard time deciding how to place it... in the corner, the center, facing up or down... too many options, I think!

Gwee Fleece Blanket, Part 1

So, I'll admit that I really don't know what a Gwee is beyond a super cute baby dragon. When I was talking about needing to make something gender neutral for an upcoming baby shower for an Amtgard friend, my cousin suggested a dragon blanket with arms, legs and wings that were free to move. She also suggested that I use a Gwee for the pattern, and after showing a picture to me, I was sold.

I still have a bunch of details to stitch on, and I need to quilt him into place, but I am super happy with houw he is looking so far. I am debating whether or not to add just a bit of stuffing to the parts that are sewn down, but I haven't decided. Likely I will test to see how it looks and then decide.

Anyway, cute little break while I wait for the other special orders to return my messages.

Nightshade Plushie Part 2

I finished this little guy today. He was quite fun to make and I think he turned out really nice!

When I went to take his pictures, I thought it would be fun to stick him in my scooter basket.

His tail feathers and wings took extra time because they needed to be ragged. It is hard to make fabric look distressed while actually makeing it so the fabric won't rip and tear in the future.

His eyes are supposed to glow, and I think these buttons do a great job of looking like they glow in just about any light.

I used poly beads to make him sit nicely, so he is a bit weighty.

The light hit just right to really make his eyes glow in this shot. I hope I get more orders for plushies... they are pretty fun to make!

I forgot the hand diamonds, so here is a shot of one and an up close of the super cute ear.

Nightshade Plushie

Another special order, this time from FA. Nighshade is a Dutch Angel Dragon, and he asked me to make a plush toy for a prop when he was not in his suit.

Here are the pieces roughly cut out.

I had to look often at the reference to get the details right, but make them soft and loveable in the plush toy style.

Nightshade is a grumpy and disheveled  Angle Dragon, so he wanted his battered feathers to show

For those who haven't seen Nightshade, here is a very cool drawing done by Angel's Nest.

Plush Pattern

I've been wanting to try making plush animals for the furry population that are personalized to match their fursona. So, I set out to make a pattern for a dutch angel dragon. I began by looking at this teddy bear, because it was rather close to what I was imagining in my head.

After making the pieces, I pinned them together and did some adjustments.

Then I set out to cut the fabric. Unfortunately I didn't have quite enough brown and black, so I will need to run to the store.

I was going for a hand-stitched aesthetic, so I used a button hole stitch to quilt the different colors together.

I am short one arm and one leg on the fabric, so I will have to run to the store.

The head shape almost looks right, but I may need to do a little more pulling stitches to get it just right. I am also debating about whether or not the black stitches on the white fabric are too much. I've been staring at it too long, so I am not sure.

For those wondering, this is Telephone. I met her recently and thought she might enjoy having a plushy. She happens to live near me and invited me to hang out, so I'll let you know if she liked it.
